1. I'm cleaning up my oldest fic, right? Because I want everything from FF.net, Restricted Section, AFF, my journal, w/e, all on the AO3. This is the stuff from way back, the stuff that was the very first fanfiction I wrote consciously, knowing what I was doing what writing fanfiction.

So I did most of this work a year ago, and I imported all but just a few things from FF.net. It is important to note that I didn't read any of them; I just imported all of them and tossed them up. But oh god, there were a few things I had missed, and I read them. Oh my god that was an error in judgment. I just, goddamn.

But now, I've put up everything I can find (though now that I think about it I might need to recheck [livejournal.com profile] bloody_shorts), except for this one story.

It is, without a doubt, bar none, the worst story I have ever written in my entire life. This is not 100% shocking, because it was the second story I ever wrote, following my (adorable and harmless) Mary Sue, and it was the first porn I ever wrote. I remember having SUCH TROUBLE because I was 17 AND THREE QUARTERS YOU GUYS and it was SO SCARY to click the "I am over 18" button because I was afraid of the INTERNET POLICE.

You think I'm lying. You sit here and read all these kinky stories I been leaving all over the place, and you do not understand that I am a Good Girl at heart. I have been known to follow the Letter and not the Spirit, is what I'm saying.

So I don't know what to do about this story. I thought it wasn't available anywhere on the internet except behind a login at Restricted Section, but I just found it on my AFF profile. I'm so torn, because I'm a completist, and I feel that you have to own your mistakes. But y'all, this, this may just be too bad. We may have crossed the Rubicon on this one. I'll damn sure link to the sporking if I do post it, though (if I can find it, it's not tagged on the comm I know it's in).

So IDK. I'm not linking you to it if I post it. You can find it your damn selves.

2. WHY DID NO ONE EVER TELL ME OF THE EXISTENCE OF CAN'T SMEG, WON'T SMEG. YOU ARE ALL FIRED.

Ohhh my god, you have no idea how many fond memories I have of being a tiny Sabine, sitting in front of BBCA watching Can't Cook, Won't Cook and Ready Steady Cook. And if you didn't watch it on BBCA, you missed the best part, because it had American translations at the bottom. Like, it would have helpful little bars when they used a non-American term for something ("The courgette is also known as a zucchini!") or some food item that's not commonly used in America ("Crème fraîche is similar to sour cream" or "Clotted cream is... okay look we're not a hundred percent on what it is, but it tastes pretty good, so let's roll with it.").

That plus Red Dwarf = one ECSTATIC Sabine.

3. Random: Don't tell me what it is, but do you have your credit/debit card number memorized? We're talking about the number proper, from the front of the card, not the account number.

I have always had my debit card number memorized, and this seems to blow people's minds. Seriously, though, y'all, if you have a MasterCard from an American bank (regional banks, at least), the first eight numbers for any card number drawn on a specific account are always going to be the same, and the last four you need all the time for verification; it's only four numbers you have to memorize.

Why is this hard? Am I just being weird again?

I am particularly perplexed by this, because my mother thinks this is an amazing skill, and she has Masters (Masterses?) in both math and accounting.

4. So this is going around again, [livejournal.com profile] pocky_slash being the proximal cause: Post the first sentence (or three) from every WIP you're currently working on, even if it's very short. Then invite people to ask questions about your WIPs. With any luck, the motivation to take that WIP one step closer to completion will appear as if by magic!

The "first" part doesn't work for me- can't be buggered- But here are some bits anyway. I think this is all XMFC, but it may please you to note that the Atlantis story farthest up the queue is labeled "what what (in the butt)". As one does.

The working titles = best part. Also these got real long somehow )

So I went to the GameStop (I wanted Ghost Trick, but they were out), and the guy talked me into buying Lego Harry Potter for the DS (Let's all be honest: it didn't take much). And I wasn't sure I'd like it, because I'm a turn-based girl at heart, but it's totally charming. I just keep running around smashing things gleefully and ignoring my quests to get more coins ("studs", excuse me). Unlike a lot of games, the DS touchscreen controls are really nifty and make good use of the platform (even if I do keep changing characters accidentally). So that's taking up my time until school is back in (which is next Wednesday, god).

And revisiting Harry Potter in general is sending me searching for my great lost love: really filthy Snape/Hermione stories. You heard me. I am delighted to see that Restricted Section is still in business, especially now that GeoCities is gone. Some of this stuff is actually still worth reading, though the amount of purple prose I was willing to slog through back in the day is, well, it's fucking amazing.

So that's the state of the union. Also I am doing this now:

Choose any pairing or character and I will write a one-sentence story about them. Taking Harry Potter (obvs), SGA, Venture Bros, Metalocalypse, Inception, etc. Y'all know what I write.

I present to you also a prize: I have put my very own Harry Potter Mary Sue, written, oh god, eight years ago, up on the AO3. Please, enjoy what a boring little Mary Sue I made for.

Apropos of nothing, here are a few pictures I took with my cell phone and forgot to post.

Who's got two thumbs and is a total geek? )

[livejournal.com profile] arymabeth and I are having a fantabulous weekend, even though we, uh, never actually made it to the con, us being way too goddamned lazy and the highway being partially closed. I have thoroughly corrupted her to the cause of SGA (Ronon gives her a little bit of a situation, it's true), just as I am slowly corrupting everyone I know.

Too bad I can't be this effective for shows that are actually, y'know, still on the air. Whatever, we're keeping the home fires burning.

And I may go to Dragon*Con? Because I was kinda halfway planning to anyway, because I've been trying to go for years and it's never worked out. But now it's only four hours away, and I don't have a broken foot this year. But dude, seriously? Why is Dragon*Con more expensive than SDCC (for which I need to buy my plane ticket today)?

WTF girls?

Title: Nothing Like It
Summary: This should feel wrong.
Fandom: Harry Potter

A/N: Did somebody say Smut Tuesday? Y'all, it has been so long since I wrote anything with girly bits in it.

I always have this feeling that my journal should have some posts in it.

All I've really done today is read posts at Bad Penny. I have a special taste for fandom batshit, the really good stuff like msscribe and Cassie Claire, and it doesn't get much batshittier than that comm.

Ahh, The Draco Trilogy. The fic has a special place in my heart for being the first HP fic that was ever recced to me. I hadn't written much at the time- I think Triptych (ctrl+f "startlingly pretentious") and my completely fucking boring self-insert were the only things that I had finished (not that Miranda Silver ever was finished, but still). This was back in the early fall of 2003; [livejournal.com profile] diagonally had juuuust started, and I was playing Draco for the first time. I'm pretty sure either Vi/Xan or Jo linked me to it, because it was OMG TEH FANNON DRACO. I'm pretty sure at that point Draco Veritas was about four or five chapters in, and it would have been long after she got banned from ff.net.

And then it got long. )

Sigh. Oh, Harry Potter fandom, how I fail to miss you.

In other news, I can't decide whether or not I want to see The Golden Compass. I read the book with the stated intention of having read it before seeing the movie, but...Spoilers, backtalk )

The thing that strikes me about both The Draco Trilogy and The Golden Compass is that I didn't realize how much I disliked them until I was done, and I dislike them upon reflection, when that usually doesn't happen to me.

Fandom: Harry Potter
Word Count: 500
Rating/Warnings: PG, slash (almost pre-slash, really)
Pairing: Harry/Neville
A/N: I love this pairing, but I can never seem to write well for it. The inspiration came from my cultural anthropology class, of all places. My professor has a huge thing for witchcraft. Mmm, witchcraft.

So, I've been reading French fic at the Pit lately, trying to improve my comprehension, grasp of slang, etc.

(This is the part where you ask why I'm not reading Le Monde or le Canard Enchainé or something, and I make a bunch of excuses about already knowing the sort of vocab that it takes to read Le Monde and about not being able to understand le Canard.)

But the last fic I found boggled my mind. Hermione marries Draco, which she considers a huge mistake, except for the fact that they had a son, who died. Hermione tries to run away, to be chased (in a car) by Draco, who's listening to country music, no less. He gives her a choice: come with him, or throw herself off the conveniently located cliff behind them. She chooses the cliff, and Draco screams like a little girl. In a cliffhanger, she is found at the bottom of the cliff by an unnamed someone (I'd lay even money on it being Harry). I should mention that all this takes place on Christmas.

And, for that extra flavor, the falling off the cliff scene is supplemented by the lyrics to "My Immortal" by Evanescence. In English.

She used to be a promising Hogwarts student. She had many friends and helped Harry defeat the Dark Lord Voldemort on several occasions. Now she ded from angst.

For an added bonus, the fic is called "Pêcher Originel". I'm almost certain she meant "Original Sin", which is "Le péché originel". And anyway, the verb "to sin" is "pécher". Ladies and gentlemen, the title of the fic is "Original Fishing".

Title: De la Paix
Summary: AU. Antonin, Bellatrix, and baby's first Christmas Eve together.
Fandom: Harry Potter
Word Count: 555
Rating/Warnings: PG
Pairing: Antonin/Bellatrix
A/N: This is an AU, based off an RPG- ack, too many letters. This is a continuation/conclusion (?) of a storyline which was going on at [livejournal.com profile] diagonally before the Troubles. Antonin Dolohov is a paltry estimation of [livejournal.com profile] clarior’s characterization, and I hope she forgives me. Anyway, this is sort of a Christmas present for her. Enjoy. Or, alternately, don't.

Title: When The Time Is Right
Summary: Sirius is restless and chasing a memory.
Fandom: Harry Potter
Word Count: 1324
Rating/Warnings: NC-17, heavy slash. Meaning that there are (of age) boys in there what have caught the gay, and if you don't like it, don't read it.
Pairing: Sirius/Remus
A/N: So this is the first of my challenges for [livejournal.com profile] shadowenmagic. Christ. So many notes for this one. I should not be allowed to write smut. Ever. I can't just write a story about some nice people who get it on, oh no. It has to be all psychological and pseudointellectual and take 3 pages when I do it, 2.5 of which are why they're doing it, and .5 of which is them actually getting the hell around to it. Sorry if the sex is bad; I'm not a gay man. Not sorry if the characterization is bad. I'm going off the admittedly noncanonical idea that prolonged exposure to dementors can lead to memory loss, particularly of happy memories. Makes sense to me- sort of a forced repression sort of thing. Oh yes- takes place in the summer between GoF and OotP and assumes that Remus staying at least a couple of nights there. Finally, I hope [livejournal.com profile] shadowenmagic likes it.
