House Big Bang Challenge: The Roots of Rhythm Remain (House/Cuddy/Wilson)

Title: The Roots of Rhythm Remain
Series: The Rhythm of the Saints
Summary: Lisa, Greg, Evan, and James, and how their story goes on.
Fandom: House
Word Count: 20015
Rating/Warnings: NC-17
Pairing: House/Cuddy/Wilson
A/N: I have written substantial meta for this story, available here.

Excerpt:
When the rabbi finally exhorts them to kiss the bride, they realize that, though they've fought out everything else, they've completely forgotten this moment. As if they've planned it, both Greg and James head for Lisa, who catches them on either cheek. The portion of the audience that doesn't secretly think they're all going to hell thinks it's all perfectly heartwarming.

When they're introduced, Lisa throws back her head and laughs, as if they've pulled one over on the universe.

YAY! This was awesome. Everything that happened seemed very right, and it was fun, and hurrah for the coincidental poly-family of the boyfriend.

PS. I guess I have no right to say anything, seeing as how I've written a 'verse that deliberately excluded characters' names, but I'm really curious what their last name is.

Right up until like two days before it was due, their last name was Dodd (from the Hebrew word for beloved, because House is secretly a softy like that), and it was revealed when Evan interviews them. My beta thought- and I agree- that it was too jarring, so I ended up writing around it.

I'm so glad you liked it!

This was lovely, and such a nice surprise because I thought I had read the last of this particular series. I really enjoyed the lyrics as title breaks, although I was chagrined to find that I couldn't identify some of the ones towards the end. :( Thank you so much for writing this and posting ig.

They do tend to get more obscure as it goes one. A lot of the ones at the end are from The Capeman and Surprise.

I'm glad you liked the series!

I figured "Killer Wants To Go To College" was from Capeman, but wasn't sure.

So, I don't comment as much as I should on stories I enjoyed, but I had to in this case because this was totally, completely perfect and I loved every bit. Great job!

This was a wonderful look at a unique family (how could they be anything but unique?)! I liked the way the structure moved the story through the years, bringing the focus up and down on the different family members. I especially liked the glimpses of Evan as she grew up. I loved her birthday date with Chase. And while I wanted to slap Wilson for falling back into old behaviours, I liked that he was finally able to break the pattern.

Thanks for sharing this with us!

Aaaaawwwwwww <3

Just finished reading this story-type-thing and thought I'd drop a note to say how much I lurved it (a lot). I was pleasantly surprised to make its acquaintance, as I had read the beginnings of your 'Rhythm of the Saints' series quite awhile ago and assumed there would be no more. But now there is! Glee! Happies! Thanks so much for writing.

I hadn't read the original two parts of this, so I had an extra bonus :D

I loved all of it - it's totally believable, Evan is great, and it works so well.

*mems like crazy*

THIS WAS SO FUCKING AWESOME. I wanted to stay up all last night and read it, but my allergy meds put paid to my plan. Damn it all. Anyway, this was...GUH. I love how Evan and Ethan come from the same background, basically, and are totally made for each other through their experiences. And Chase is her favorite not-uncle? You are MADE of awesome and win.

This story was so lovely! I stumbled across it by accident today as I was looking for some House fanfiction to read. I think it's such a lovely idea, House, Cuddy, and Wilson. They do complete each other, don't they?

And Evan is such a wonderful OC. I can see where she takes parts of each of her parents.

I also have to say the part where House says, "Help, I'm being kidnapped by an anthropologist!" really made me laugh out loud. I could practically hear Hugh Laurie deliver the line.

Bravo, this was wonderful.

I just wanted to say that I really liked this for two reasons:

1. I really enjoy kidfic where the child is intelligent and real. And Evan is totally the kind of kid that I could really like (and that's saying something).

2. You did poly right! And right from the perspective of the kid. Which is something that I know very well as the child of a polyamorous relationship. Thank you!

You have no idea how gratifying it is to hear that I got it right! Thanks!

Omg. I realize you wrote this quite a while ago, but I'm new to House fic.

Omg.

Amazing. I loved every single word. Thank you so much for writing and sharing!!

That was fantastic :) I mean way better than expected I'm not normally a huge fan of them as ot3 but this was just awesome :) <3 It was so *funny* I think it's hard to write humor well especially when you do it in the vingette way you portrayed the story :) thank you so much for sharing your work with everyone :) (and omg I can't help wondering what their last name was O_O I kept thinking it'd be revealed at the end but no dice!!)

BTW do you have more stories from this universe available anywhere? :) (besides the first two that started it)

In the original draft, their last name was Dodd- from the Hebrew word for beloved, because they're secretly soft like that.

The only other story in the verse is My Father's Old Coat. Thanks for your comment!

Ah thank you for the info and the link :) i enjoyed that little story too <3

now that I've had time to read your note on the dvd commentary I see that you aren't going to write more :( but I understand your reasons. Did anyone take up the torch and offer to write more?

Also do you happen to have any other authors/stories that you liked that were similar (as in a house/cuddy/wilson story) that was well done? :)

What excellent, excellent character voice. Especially their wedding - note perfect. Thanks for that.
