Ereaders: The Reckoning

She is a Kobo, and I love her quite dearly.
I narrowed it down between the Kobo and the Kindle, and here's what I see as the pros of one over the other, because the cons are essentially the same (neither of them support all the major formats, PDF support sucks on both of them, etc etc):
Kobo
-Lighter
-More comfortable to hold (the quilted back and lack of keyboard really does make a difference)
-Comes preloaded with 100 ebooks (free books, mind, but a real convenience)
-Has a Palm app
Kindle
-Longer battery life (1 month to Kobo's 2 weeks)
-(Reportedly) faster interface
-Includes extras like sudoku and such
The Kindle's real advantages are all on the 3G model, which is highly valued among my friends who do fieldwork outside the US. But I didn't have an extra $60 to drop on it; if I had, I probably would have gone with the Kindle instead. So, Kobo won the day.
It almost didn't, because we were in the store half an hour and I was hemming and hawing extensively. We actually left the store and got all the way to the car, and then I went "NO, FUCK IT" and went back in and bought it. I don't regret it.
Here it is all swaddled in the case I whipped up for it (my first experiment in quilting, which I think came out nicely). Hurrah!
