DAY FOUR: TURNABOUT GOODBYES
or, Don't taze me, bro!

Defense Attorney: Phoenix Wright
Side Bar: Maya Fey
Prosecutor: Manfred Von Karma
Defendant: Miles Edgeworth
Victim: Robert Hammond
Play Time (with credits): 3 hours, 1 min.

The kink meme has RUINED Gourdy for me, and I completely love them for it. That's all I got to say about that.

There's an important note to be made about the opening of this case. In 1-1 and 1-2, the person you see with the murder weapon first did it (in 1-3 this scene is skipped altogether). Turnabout Goodbyes is the first fake-out opener, which I think is indicative of the case as a whole. It's also the first place you get a Guilty fake-out.

This case is one of the few places where I see canon hints towards Edgeworth/Maya. I don’t particularly care one way or another about the pairing (other than to say that it is preferable any day to Phoenix/Maya, and nowhere near as awesome as Larry/Maya), but I did notice.

I have such mixed feelings about this case. On the one hand, the story is so solid. It's the first really powerful case of the games, and it makes for a really great ending to the initial arc. On the other hand, it's so incredibly unbalanced. There's all this really tense drama going down with Edgeworth and Von Karma and Yogi, and you spend two thirds of the investigation fucking around in the woods looking for a giant tentacle monster. Uh, I mean, sea creature. Totally a sea creature. And not any sort of giant octopus-like creature built for insemination. I guess it would be a little unbearable if it was all drama all the time, but damn.

I guess it's kind of indicative of this plot arc though. On one end, you have Larry, who has never had a serious moment in his life, and on the other, you have Miles, who puts the "emo" in "Demon Prosecutor". In the middle, neither too angsty nor too wacky, are Phoenix and his videogames.

The pacing is much better in this case than the previous two. Turnabout Sisters packs so much into two days, and Turnabout Samurai seems to drag on and on and on and on. The exception, of course, is the first day, which feels largely pointless. This case, however, brings up a personal pet peeve in videogames: making the main character do something criminally stupid in order to advance. In order to get past the last investigation, you have to show Von Karma the letter from the safe. Which is your most vital evidence. Which you know to be IN HIS HANDWRITING. Which Phoenix tells Maya off for doing in Turnabout Samurai.

As a side note, what the fuck is Marvin Grossberg doing standing his fat ass on the beach? Probably heard it was an unattended pasta shop over there.

The characters from this case have some of the best animations of any in the games. I particularly like Yogi's FREEBIRD!-i-fall-down-now animation. And who hasn't let Von Karma just bang his head into that wall over and over and over again (if you haven't, I swear it's theraputic). Am I the only one who thinks Von Karma clutching his shoulder looks an awful lot like Batou?

Despite all its problems, this case is my favorite for one simple reason: BABY EDGEWORTH. He's got his little suit, and his little red bow tie, and his already ingrained sense of justice, and I could just eat him on a cracker.

We talked about Mia's hot death scene; it seems even hotter compared to Gregory Edgeworth's lolling-tongue photo. Seriously. One of the hottest characters in all the games, and he, well… he looks like a dead person.

Maybe Mia's just got me skewed.

In light of game 3, I also wanted to point out that from this case on, Maya shows a real commitment to the Kurain Technique. I hadn't really remembered that it was there from so early on, and it seemed a little pastede on yay once I got to T&T.

But enough of about dubious psychic practices! It's time for-

Miles, who puts the "emo" in "Demon Prosecutor"

Best. Thing. Ever.

I agree with you about this case being my favorite out of all of them. 2-4 and 3-5 are close behind, but this one will always top.

...like Edgeworth clearly never, ever will.

And randomly, could I friend you? :D

Aww, but I like it when Edgeworth gets all manly...

...It says a lot about Edgeworth when the manliest he gets is gay sex.

By all means, friend away!
