Read the end and beginning of HBP again.

How did I miss Grawp at the funeral the first time? I sniffled most pitifully.

Snape is not evil. This seems blatantly obvious to me. Snape's alibi to Bellatrix (and Voldemort) is nowhere near airtight. There's no evidence for any of it. If I were Voldemort, I'd have AKed him on principle. You don't fuck with the Dark Lord, son!

Remember how it keeps being emphasized that Snape is Voldemort's favorite? Voldemort's the one who needs supporters at any cost, not Dumbledore. He'd have to take Snape's flimsy ass story- Dumbledore wouldn't.

Predictions for Book 7:

Harry will be in the position to kill Snape, and he won't do it. All that about it being choices that make a person what he is? Yup. Though I have a feeling Snape will die. I think quite possibly Voldemort will kill him.

I also think Bellatrix will die at either Neville or a redeemed Snape's hands.

I think finding the locket's gonna be a bitch, as Mundungus has probably sold it. Though, if he couldn't open it, he may have left it. Another possibility- the curse on it may kill him.

I don't think Ron or Hermione will die. In OotP, I was almost certain that one of them would die, now it seems highly unlikely. Lupin, perhaps.

Goddamn I hope Wormtail dies.

More later.

"So who's side is Severus on?" "...His side."

It certainly looks like Voldemort placed Peter with Severus to spy on him, not to serve him. Severus has to blast him away from that door, and he bitches when Severus tells him to get drinks.

Of course, Voldemort's paranoid, but he makes big mistakes: Karkaroff, Lucius. We also don't know enough about Legilimency/Occulmency. Snape's one of the best. If he can project what Voldemort wants to hear, he'd never be in danger.

The Marauders were school aged when they pulled their stunt with Snape, and Snape didn't die. Snape was an adult, and James and Lily really did die. That sounds like a pretty damn good reason for regret to me.

I think the whole Snape good/evil debate is an example of JKR's writing prowess. The evidence for him being evil is just as compelling as that for him being good, and until book 7 comes out, there's no way to know.

Lucius didn't betray him, he failed a mission. Karkaroff ran away, nothing more.

I think Snape is seeking survival, if meant killed both 'Masters' so be it but (IMO) as far as I see, he's on Voldemort's side.

Snape also acts like a child in many ways, I don't think he's mature enough to be regretful about James (Lily, maybe). He still wanted Sirius to pay, even if he was innocent (mind you, Sirius is no better either).
