Three notes

sabinelagrande: (god a)
1. So I had to watch this really very poorly made documentary for class. And then this happened.

2. [livejournal.com profile] mcshep_match reveal is up! I wrote One Step Back, which really has nothing to do with anything and is not really my style at all. And, once again, nobody guessed me.

3. Pretty sure I have the con crud. It is relatively mild, but I definitely woke myself up coughing last night and have been dragging ass ever since we got back. Bleh.

1. I swear to god, if I have any more problems with banks this week, I'm going to withdraw all my money and keep it in a shoebox underneath my bed. Christ on a cross.

2. My darlings:

My interview for [livejournal.com profile] mcshep_work is coming up soon (Monday?)! Do you have any questions for me? You should ask them! Or else it will be a very boring interview.

3. I'm off to beat up bad guys with my SWORD OF FIRE. Oh City of Heroes. Never leave me again.

1. ::collapses onto the finish line::

You guys, my [community profile] mcshep_match fic is done. I honestly can't tell if it's nothing like anything I've ever written, or if it's like taking everything I've ever written and putting it into a blender. I'm also afraid that the prompt isn't obvious enough, but WHATEVER IT IS DONE. I AM DRINKING A BEER NOW.

2. Please tell me I am not allowed to write an AU where the Mythbusters are high school madrigals, even if I have the PERFECT TITLE and it is IN LATIN.

I am possibly a little caffeinated right now.

3. Have I mentioned that the strip clubs here have started running TV ads? They would be unremarkable if they were like the Girls Gone Wild ads, but instead they are almost exactly like ads for local pizza parlors and car dealerships, except with more tits. IDEK.

sabinelagrande: (me and my house)
1. Moving from movies that are bad and should feel bad to movies that are great: I watched Rope again last night with Mom, since she'd never seen it. God, I forgot how much I am in love with that movie. It is my very favorite. Such an elaborately constructed, quiet thriller, and I'd forgotten how funny it is too, and how forward it was for the time. A homosexual relationship (while never directly stated, because of the Hays Code) that's never played for laughs! A romantic subplot that resolves itself by the participants acting like rational adults! Tension of every variety! Jimmy Stewart! John Dall (UNF)!

And I finally found the second director cameo!

I just want more fic. It would please me in the darkest reaches of my little black soul.

2. McShep Match:

x / n words. 60% done!

I am making strides! I'm still not sure if I like it, though. I'm pretty well entrenched in [idea A], but [idea B] still calls to me, and I'm not sure I can make [idea A] work out the way I want. I've decided, though, that if it's not done by the time I leave for Guatemala (NEXT FRIDAY OH GOD IN HEAVEN), I'm dropping out. I just can't guarantee when and what and how I'll have internet access, and I need to give as much warning as possible for any theoretical replacement of mine. I do hope I can finish, though.

3. I am so very close to finishing a line for [community profile] kink_bingo! And I suspect that the story I am working on will make certain of you very happy. ;D It's like refrigerator soup- I just threw in everything I felt like reading at the time, and it came out pretty delicious, if I do say so myself. I have about a thousand words of it, and it's just burning up my brain, but Mom's been here all weekend, which puts a big damper on writing porn, y'know?

3a. I was supposed to be finishing my incomplete classes this month. Lol. Well, we all see how that worked out.

Drabble tree! Pick a phrase from any drabble! Write a thing! Make sure you put "Work" in the subject line, or else the hippies win!

But Sabine, I hear you say. I do not have an idea! Well, that is okay! You could jump on somebody else's! For example, perhaps you would like to write about naked, subby John? Or Rodney at a honky tonk? Or Meredith and Jane? Or even tentacles?

You don't have to be a member to play. Just remember, GO WORK!

Okay, so I came to tell you all about [redacted] and why I love it so, but then I realized it would be a huge spoiler for the fic I'm planning for [community profile] mcshep_match. Harumph.

But, instead, I am soliciting your assistances, flist. I need drabble prompts. Again. McShep, mostly, and preferably something in the AU genre, though I will entertain other possibilities/fandoms to get the drabble juices (...that sounds disgusting) flowing.

Please?

1. Still a few more days to play in the [community profile] mcshep_match Drabble Tree! Go Team Work!

I swear I used to could drabble. Everything I keep coming up with is just... strange. Oh well. I did my ten.

2. Saw Iron Man 2 again. I think, after reviewing the evidence, that I liked it better than the first one, even though it didn't have Jeff Bridges in it. Better pacing and explosions.

2a. Still can't believe the dog ate my Batman jammies. I'm pissed, but I do have brand new Iron Man jammies to compensate. They are, in fact, so loud that I don't know if I'll be able to sleep, but I love them anyway.

3. I've been writing more, but with everything coming up, I keep socking stuff away, hoping it'll fit into something I'm doing. And let me just tell you, either I'm going to bingo at [community profile] kink_bingo in a heartbeat, or you're going to see a lot of, shall we say, uncharacteristic stories all of a sudden, like, on a Tuesday. Something's got to give from my writing schedule, though, and it might have to be [community profile] sgareversebang. :\

4. Hurrah, I get to go back to Nashville tomorrow! Where I will sleep in my own bed, with my own pillows. Mmm. It will be sinfully decadent. Only clean sheets could make it better.

5. My Cally costume is all but done! I just have to put the wings on and do some heavy ironing, and we are in business. I had pictures, but they were all so unreservedly awful that I felt bad posting them (hey, I took them with my webcam. My integrated webcam). Now all we have to do is make [livejournal.com profile] arymabeth's BSG fatigues, and we will be done for the Dragon*Con! Hurrah!

Title: The Ethical Life
Summary: Rodney's system is already perfect, but it could be better.
Fandom: Stargate: Atlantis
Word Count: 5982
Rating/Warnings: NC-17, language, angst
Pairing: John/Rodney, mentions of Rodney/Katie and Rodney/Keller
A/N: Written for Team War (whooo!) in [livejournal.com profile] mcshep_match '09. Betaed by the lovely [livejournal.com profile] shadowenangel and [livejournal.com profile] arymabeth This is a sector clock; they're very near and dear to my heart, because my father's a clock collector, and he's got a really nice restored one (which is actually pretty much the only thing in his collection that I like). I have a lot to say about this story, but I think I'll save it for the commentary.

The Ethical Life )
sabinelagrande: (hp - may contain slash)
1. [livejournal.com profile] mcshep_match is over! And, as such, I can finally reveal that my story was, in fact, The Ethical Life.

I am ASTOUNDED nobody guessed (publicly, anyway). I mean, come on, y'all, I wrote this story once already.

2. HOLY SHIT, FIRST BIG BANG DRAFT IS SUBMITTED.

It is 41947 words long and apt to get longer in editing. Holy hell. I can't believe I even did it. My lovely betas: I have posted everything, plus some new notes for your perusal.

3. FFS, I have to be at dinner in 45 minutes and I haven't showered yet today. I WILL BE BACK LATER, INTERNETS.
sabinelagrande: (sga - O NOES)
1. [livejournal.com profile] mcshep_match ends tomorrow! Please read and vote (for Team War, obvs)! You can also guess the authors and win a prize! I was going to come over here and tantalize you with the fact that no one has, as yet, guessed my story correctly, but then I realized that nobody had publicly guessed me at all. But hey! If you get it right and I end up being the hardest author to spot, you could win too!

2. [livejournal.com profile] mcsmooch is open! Two weeks! Kissing! John and Rodney!

2a. [livejournal.com profile] non_mcsmooch is open! Two weeks! Kissing! John or Rodney! Maybe neither of them!

3. [livejournal.com profile] sgabigbang first drafts are due tomorrow! WhoaMG! Then begins two weeks of frantical editing. FRANTICAL.

4. Okay, so I feel like I should explain this tweet: I dreamed that Felix Gaeta was going to break into my house and try to fix the Coke machine. It was really quite worrisome at the time, especially because it was one of those dreams where I dreamed I was in my bed in my apartment, and it was exactly like where I actually was, except that Ellen Tigh was there with me, and I was quite concerned when I woke up and she was a fictional character.

5. GOD I NEED A THOUSAND NAPS. BUT THERE IS NO TIME. ALSO POSSIBLY I DRANK TOO MUCH IN CLASS, AND MY ONLY CHOICE AT THIS JUNCTURE IS TO CONTINUE. BUT I HAVE THINGS TO DO.

6. I keep meaning to mention: every time I see Jack/Ianto, I keep wanting to abbreviate it to Jinto. Just sayin'.
sabinelagrande: (sga - fired up for war)
Dear Flist:

I'd like to take a moment to talk to you about Team War.

We have fallen angels. We have hard-boiled detectives. We have Arthurian AU. We have robots. We have at least one were-panther. We have heartbreak. We have mindfuck. We have more WWII AU than we honestly know what to do with.

What does Team Dirty Hippie, oh, excuse me, Team Peace have?

Well, like, some really pretty art, actually, and I really liked that one story, but CLEARLY they are not as awesome as Team War.

So go and read something, won't you? Remember to vote, and remember that 9 is clearly the only acceptable vote for Team War, but only because it does not go up to 11.

sabinelagrande: (sga - i'll call him daddy idc)
So, I started trying to write a post like, hours ago, but then it turned into this big long rant about SGA fandom that was totally unrelated and would have alienated half my flist, so let me say instead:

Re: the SGU casting call: If you're not pissed off, you're not paying attention.

Re: the Liefeld incident: Still think Liefeld's a misogynist, a homophobe, and just fucking bad at drawing, but the dude in the hat is a total dick.

Re: my own personal fail: here is the interview I did for [livejournal.com profile] mcshep_war, which I totally forgot to link until just now, wherein I babble a lot about gender and linguistics.

Re: things that do not fail at all: Now that it has been given the hairy eyeball by the lovely and talented [livejournal.com profile] shadowenmagic (as well as [livejournal.com profile] arymabeth and like half of Team War), my [livejournal.com profile] mcshep_match fic is totally done, and just as soon as I can think of a summary, I will send it off and get it out of my hair.

Now I am going to write something fluffy, because that is how we roll around here.
sabinelagrande: (good will hunting - not about you)
1. Joyeux anniversaire, [livejournal.com profile] fanarts_series!

2. LAST CALL for questions, so if there's anything you've ever wanted to know about my writing, my taste in furniture, what kind of soup I like, my thoughts on yaoi, etc, speak up. I'll be posting in a couple of hours.

3. I feel like I meant to rec this story and never did: if you like Sheppard/Zelenka (and really, who doesn't) and/or Vegas AU, go and read We make a sky where we may be by [livejournal.com profile] penknife. It's really very lovely and angsty (and anything with S/Z is always win in my book).

4. So [livejournal.com profile] arymabeth reads Daria fic now and again, which is honestly something I never would have even gone looking for, even though Jane/Daria was totally my OTP to end all OTPs. And she passed along to me something I really never thought I'd see: Trent/Tom. And the scary thing is, it really works. So go and read Selsun Blue, Gore-Tex Green, while we all wait for the DVDs to come out.

5. I, uh, have a date? This is remarkable, because I haven't gone on a proper date since... like, Bush's first term.

5a. BUT FIRST I HAVE A BILLION PAPERS, because the Institute ends next week. And I will be sad to go home, but I will not be sad in the least to leave my roommate, who is quickly driving me batshit crazy. But right now, it's time for shower, crepes, coffee, and my metaphor paper. Away!

Yes.

sabinelagrande: (iron man - things to blow up)
1. Is there canon word on what part of Canada Rodney's from? Because I've just realized that I keep writing him as if he's from Toronto; but based on his vowel system, it seems vastly more likely that he's from Alberta, or maybe even Saskatchewan. Go and read the comments on this one.

OH MY ACTUAL GOD, I DID NOT JUST CONSIDER PULLING OUT PRAAT AND PLOTNIK TO ANALYZE THE DISTANCE BETWEEN BRENT BUTT AND DAVID HEWLETT, WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME, I NEED TO GO HOME AND GET AWAY FROM ALL THESE PHONOLOGISTS

2. Questions! Ask me them! Or else my interview will be quite boring indeed, and nobody wants that.

2a. [livejournal.com profile] mcshep_match fic now going smashingly. Have written rather a large number of words, and as soon as I can get them to shut up and [redacted] on the [redacted] Tuesday [redacted] John's ass [redacted], I think I'll be ready to send it off for beta.

3. It appears that [livejournal.com profile] dvd_commentary is doing their thing again, so I'm throwing it open- please feel free to comment on anything I've written, in any fandom. And while we're on the subject, please feel free to use my fanfic in whatever non-profit way you see fit- remixes, podfic, covers, fanart (I will melt into a puddle, srsly), cross-stitch, tattoos, whatever. Just let me know, so that I can squee all over you! However, if you're interested in doing anything with any original work I've posted, whether here or at [livejournal.com profile] debitage, contact me first.
sabinelagrande: (sga - fired up for war)
Okay, dude? You have to go and vote for Team War. If you don't, Team Hippie will win, and nobody wants that to happen. If you do go and vote, and you come back here and tell me you did, I'll write you a drabble for any fandom I've ever written. How's that sound? Everybody likes drabbles, right?

<3?
sabinelagrande: (sw - well hung jedi)
1. After much dicking around and generalized grab-assery, it looks like I'll be living in the dorms at Berkeley this summer. I've got to talk to the airline today or tomorrow (yay for free tickets), but I should be there from roughly July 4 to August 14. And once that's settled, I'm pretty sure all my plans are set until Dragon*Con. Hurrah!

2. [livejournal.com profile] mcshep_match! Drabble Tree! Go War!

3. New mc chris is only out on iTunes as of now. This gives me Bones face: >[ This is to be differentiated from its polar opposite, Chekov face: =D

4. Apparently I live in Grand Central Station this week: first my dad, then [livejournal.com profile] arymabeth, now my mom. IDK.

5. My necklace, which I've been wearing since... mid 2007, I suppose, finally wore through and fell off. I feel oddly naked.

6. Go read at [livejournal.com profile] remixthedrabble! More on this after the reveal, but can I just point out for now that somebody remixed Ouroboros, which is one of my favorite stories that I've written, and it is awesome.

7. I'm certain I had more to say before I started this entry. Hmmph.
