The Earth-Noise Intervene

1. So our big group costume this year was Rule 63 Avengers, and there was a Marvel crossplay shoot that coffeesuperhero, shadowen, and I went to. It was a wrench, because it was go to that or go to the only Supergate panel we could fit into our schedule, plus it wasn't the day we were supposed to wear our costumes at all.

But we roll down there, there are pictures, w/e, and while we're doing the big group shot, somebody walks up and goes, "Hey, can we crash your party?" And I look over, and Stan. Fucking. Lee. comes in.

THAT SHIT HAPPENED. I legit screamed, because I had no other recourse. I had no idea what to do other than let my feels out that way.

2. My other main costume was Pam from Archer (I did the black and blue one from the first episode) with arymabeth as my Cheryl/Carol. We're in line for a long time, because we were really early, and it turned out they scheduled this panel- Archer!- in a room with like 100 seats. So, obviously, the line got capped really early, probably an hour before the panel even started. The woman who was organizing the line was fucking on point, man, and she gave us permission to kick anybody out who tried to line jump.

Somebody did.

So everybody starts yelling at them, and I'm dressed as Pam, of course, and I'm like, fuck a bunch of this it is time to get in character. So I stand up, throw my dolphin puppet onto the floor, and give the universal COME AT ME BRO hands. And no shit, the line starts chanting "PAM, PAM, PAM" over and over. I lasted about a minute of that before I absolutely lost it laughing, but oh my god it was epic. Then the whole line got moved, and I'm walking past those same people, and they start chanting again.

This sounds like one of those "Cool story, bro" stories, right? But I swear that shit actually happened, and arymabeth and shadowen can back me up on this.

Then the panel was awesome, because Amber Nash (Pam) and Lucky Yates (Krieger) were there, but a whole bunch of the animators came too, so it was really cool to be able to ask them a bunch of different kinds of questions. Afterwards (while they were trying to kick us out of the room), the Pam who was sitting in front of me was like "Let's go try to get a picture", so we did, and Amber Nash was like "OMG YOU LOOK SO GOOD" and she hugged me and I was like ::FLAIL::

So, con. Spectacular.

1. I came to the bizarre realization the other day that, out of all the things I'm presently into (I'm not counting Community, despite how desperately I love it, because I am so fucking behind I don't even count as a viewer anymore), Archer is the one that passes the Bechdel test. And a female POC is one of the main characters, and a majority of the main cast is female. How the actual fuck did this happen. Okay, I totally know how this happened: nobody working on that show gives any fucks about mainstream appeal, and the only reason they've gotten away with it was because it was completely a sleeper hit. It's one of those shows where everyone is a fucking horrible person and does and says fucking horrible things, so don't go looking to it for enlightened ideas or anything- but that's the point and the source of humor.

Fucking love me some Archer. But I still haven't seen the last episode, because I've been too down to properly appreciate it. Plus there are only two more episodes in the season and I don't want it to eeeeeennnd. But I do randomly shout "SOY EL CONTADOR" and ask people if they want ants (observe that my AIM status is currently, "Is that how you get ants, Barry? Yes it is, Other Barry."). Frequently.

2. I have been wanking up and down on the tumblr the last day or so- not because I want to get into a fight, because I don't, but because people just KEEP ON being wrong on the internet. And someone finally calls me out and it's over... critiquing bad fanart? That the OP didn't even do? Oh tumblr. (I'm not engaging, and I'd rather no one engaged in my name. The OP was snide but civil, so fuck it.)

While I was writing this someone else I kinda wanked at showed up, and I did engage with him. But he wasn't the person who I was actually pissed off at, so IDGAF. He can believe me or not, whatever helps him sleep at night.

God, the number of fucks I don't give lately. I never say anything remotely wanky, because I freak out really, really easily when I think people don't like me and don't take criticism well at all. But apparently being depressed and tired makes me just wanky as a bastard, because I no longer feel the need to keep my Thoughts to myself.

3. I am procrastinating a bunch of personal posts I want to make and a bunch of fic I want to write- okay, I'm not procrastinating the fic, I'm just in that space where, for example, the other day, I opened the gdoc that has all the new Blood Money stuff in it, left it open for, like, four or five hours, and literally wrote 29 words the entire time. Granted, they were good words- there was lip-licking- but that was fucking it. That was two days ago, and I haven't written anything since. But I am writing the dialogue meta- which is not like real writing at all. And I feel vaguely dirty for quoting David Mamet in it, but it is, officially, the most awesomely true thing anybody has ever said about writing good dialogue.

4. On the bright side, I'm pretty sure I have my costumes for this year picked out. One of them will be really complicated (a redesigned Scarlet Witch), one of them will be simple but expensive (Jonas Venture, Sr.), and the other one is a "we dressed him in the car on the way to the con"* costume (Pam from Archer). I am pleased about these costuming choices.

And oh my actual god, why did no one ever tell me about Burda patterns before. ( FOR IT IS THE PATTERN COMPANY OF MY ACTUAL DREAMS )

So. That is a long entry. It has very brilliantly distracted me from all the other long entries. Excellent, excellent.

Dear the internet:

Does anyone have or know of a good pattern for fingerless gloves or arm warmers? I'm not looking for a knitting pattern- I intend to make them out of stretch vinyl (yes, I know it will be an uphill battle, but the vinyl is free). It are for my new (which is actually a very old concept, but is actually historically accurate, shock) steampunk costume.

Anyone who can help will receive a laurel and hearty handshake.

1. Still a few more days to play in the mcshep_match Drabble Tree! Go Team Work!

I swear I used to could drabble. Everything I keep coming up with is just... strange. Oh well. I did my ten.

2. Saw Iron Man 2 again. I think, after reviewing the evidence, that I liked it better than the first one, even though it didn't have Jeff Bridges in it. Better pacing and explosions.

2a. Still can't believe the dog ate my Batman jammies. I'm pissed, but I do have brand new Iron Man jammies to compensate. They are, in fact, so loud that I don't know if I'll be able to sleep, but I love them anyway.

3. I've been writing more, but with everything coming up, I keep socking stuff away, hoping it'll fit into something I'm doing. And let me just tell you, either I'm going to bingo at kink_bingo in a heartbeat, or you're going to see a lot of, shall we say, uncharacteristic stories all of a sudden, like, on a Tuesday. Something's got to give from my writing schedule, though, and it might have to be sgareversebang. :\

4. Hurrah, I get to go back to Nashville tomorrow! Where I will sleep in my own bed, with my own pillows. Mmm. It will be sinfully decadent. Only clean sheets could make it better.

5. My Cally costume is all but done! I just have to put the wings on and do some heavy ironing, and we are in business. I had pictures, but they were all so unreservedly awful that I felt bad posting them (hey, I took them with my webcam. My integrated webcam). Now all we have to do is make arymabeth's BSG fatigues, and we will be done for the Dragon*Con! Hurrah!
